Storyboard.

Together we created a storyboard to help us with our filming and knowing exactly what we wanted to film. This helped us establish how many shots we would need and how many different locations we will need.

We drew a small picture next to a description of what would be going on in the scene. We also added the timing of each scene so we knew the minimum length each clip needed to be. This will make filming a lot more simple and less stressful!

                                    

Actors (Band).

We needed to decide the actors we will be using for our band. As You Me At Six are all males we decided to do that with our band too. We wanted it to be clear that our band is an indie band and we want this to be obvious not just through their clothes but through their hair and look. We chose a few of our friends who fitted this brief. We also chose people who we get along with and wouldn't let us down when we needed them. We decided that it would be good for us to chose people which play an instrument as they would make the video look more authentic and realistic.



Here is a list of our actors we are using for the band:

- Jake Horton: guitarist. He plays guitar and goes to our school which means he is easy to find.







- Sam Harvey: bassist. He studies media so knows the importance of the subject and also plays bass.







- Haydn Macmaster: drummer. He plays drums so will be able to make it look realistic, he also studies media.






- Matt Bailey: lead singer. Although Matt doesn't go to our school so might be hard to locate, he studies drama and is known to be a good actor. We thought this would help as he wouldn't be embarrassed to be miming and would take it seriously. He already knew the lyrics to the song which would make it easier when filming and he also fits the look we were going for.

Actors (Story).

To choose actors for our story we asked our friends. We did this as they are a similar age to our target audience and we wanted to appeal to them. We couldn't find a girl who was willing to act in our film and instead of wasting valuable time searching for an actor we decided we would volunteer to be in it ourselves. This will also be good for our group as we know that we will be reliable and turn up when we need to film.
For the main boy in our film we chose our close friend Sam Wilkinson. From a previous project he had done we knew that he would be serious and dedicated. He also studies media so he knows how stressful it can be and how important it is to get decent clips. I will be playing the role of the ex-girlfriend which Sam wants to be back with and my other group member Lauren will be his new girlfriend.

We decided on some outfits for our actors to wear. We had already decided that we would be filming different scenes to look like different times and different locations. We wanted some memory scenes of when me and Sam were together but we wanted it to look like a different season to show the transition of time. To show this we decided to make our actors wear summery clothes for the past and wintery clothes for the present.
We already knew that three out of the five members have a clothing line and I have a few shirts from bassist Matt Barnes' clothing line Cheer Up! so we thought it might be effective to include one of our actors in an item of clothing from this line. (http://www.cheerupclothing.com/)

Locations.

Before we could begin writing up our storyboard we needed to decide on the locations which we would use within our music video.

I suggested Parliament Hill in Hampstead for the amazing view of London that the hill provides. For mis-en-scene it's perfect as it's appealing for the audience and the audience are then made aware of You Me At Six'x British roots. We decided that we could also do as many shots as possible in Hampstead streets as they're quite old and very pretty.

Lauren suggested that we also film close to home just to be sensible. This would mean it would be easy to travel to the location as it wouldn't be miles away and if any more scenes needed to be filmed it would be a lot easier to organise. We decided that the town centre would be a good location. Our school is a ten minute walk from the town and this would make it extremely beneficial for us and our actors. We would also find numerous cafes for 'date' scenes if necessary.

There is also a small field right next to our school and we have decided to use this too. Again we were attracted to the proximity of the location and the woodland area would offer us many varying shots.

Ideas.

We have had lengthy discussions about what we should do for the story of our video. Without any arguments we decided that there should be a band included in many scenes of the clips as researching You Me At Six videos had shown that this was the distinct similarity between each video and we wanted to keep that cohesion.
We also decided that we needed to have an exciting story, something which would keep the audience captivated and would make them want to find out what happens in the end. We thought of a good story of showing a couple who obviously don't get on and the man is very distant. We then wanted to contrast that with clips of his old relationship which will show the happiness he felt then and the love that was shared between that couple. We were uncertain how we could show the different times until Lauren came up with the idea of each clip that was the past relationship in black and white!
After we had deiced the main idea for the video we felt we were ready to create a storyboard and chose locations.

Timing.

To help us with our storyboard we decided to map out the times of the song and which lyrics are where. We will put this on our storyboard and this will hopefully mean that we can match the lyrics with what is happening in the scene.

Magazine Research.

Whilst we were at school we decided to take advantage of the resources on offer to us and read through some of the numerous media magazines. We found the articles on editing and storyboarding particularly interesting and beneficial.
